This tri-service expedition comprised two teams of climbers each with their own ambitious mountaineering objectives. On Makalu (8463m), the world’s fifth highest mountain, a team of 14 experienced mountaineers was attempting to reach the summit via the long and technical South East Ridge whilst at the same time a 12 person High Altitude
Development Team was attempting ascents of the neighbouring peaks Mera (6476m) and Baruntse (7129m).
This high quality expedition report provided a glimpse of life in Nepal, the true scale of the challenges that were faced by the expedition teams and the reasons why they were undertaken.
